Ben Frost: Biting Social Commentary

It’s -4F at Nonsek today, so it’s no wonder we’re thinking about a guy named Frost. Plus, he’s the kind of guy who gets us thinking. Australian painter and performance artist Ben Frost takes pop culture bits and bites and blends them with his own dark sensibilities to create visuals so vibrant you can practically hear them.

Logos and branded images find themselves in all manner of disturbing contexts at the hand of Frost. The juxtapositions are both disgusting and delightful… just the way we like it. Have a look at his website, benfrostisdead.com—or don’t, if you’re squeamish.

Below: a shot of Frost’s 2003 performance piece Untitled Bleeding Man: Project to Give Birth to Robot Puppies, a runway snap of Frost-inspired designs from the Nicholas X Morley show at Sydney Fashion Week 2008, and a couple of works from Frost’s site.
